When can you assess computer literacy?

You can assess computer literacy before the implementation of the learning technology in order to adapt the program to the education level of your target group. Lacking computer literacy might be a reason why a system is not used. So, it might be reasonable to investigate the computer literacy if usage problems arise in the pilot or implementation phase.

The inventory of computer education, 'INCOBI' (Richter, Naumann & Groeben, 1999) contains in chapters from II to V different scales that help you to collect data on the computer education of the future users of your learning program. You can obtain the INCOBI from Dr. Tobias Richter whose contact details are on his homepage: http://www.allg-psych.uni-koeln.de/richter/trichter.htm.
