General information about focus groups

A focus group is a moderated, focused group discussion accompanied by a specially trained moderator. The discussion should allow the topic in question to be dealt with comprehensively. Participants in focus groups are expected to share their experiences, ideas, and observations about a selected subject. An important guiding function is the homogeneous composition of the group; for example with respect to their profession, educational background, socio-demographic criteria, etc. In the context of formative evaluations, this method can be used, for example, in order to developrealistic goals and solutions.
